Individual Psychotherapy for those who wish to understand.

A space of listening, analysis and transformation. Not to resolve symptoms in three sessions — but to understand what repeats itself, what calls for meaning, what calls for change.

A process, not a technique

Individual psychotherapy at Psingular is a space of shared thinking. A place where what you feel, what you live, what repeats itself without your quite knowing why, can at last be looked at with the time and attention it deserves.

We do not work with recipes. We have no universal protocols for human pain. We work with the person in front of us — with their history, their context, the specific way in which their suffering is organised.

More than treating symptoms in isolation, we are concerned with understanding what acts in depth, what repeats itself, what remains unnamed, and what calls for elaboration. Psingular · Founding Statement

Our clinical foundation is analytical and psychodynamic psychology. But we integrate, whenever it makes sense, contributions from affective neuroscience, third-wave cognitive-behavioural therapies and philosophy itself. Without school-bound ideology — with real clinical rigour.

It may be for you

There is no exhaustive list — each person brings their own singular question. But some situations make it clearer that this may be the moment to begin:

01

Patterns that repeat

Relationships that end the same way, conflicts that reappear in different contexts, choices that seem to escape your control. When you recognise the cycle but cannot break it.

02

Difficult transitions

Career changes, the end of a relationship, parenthood, bereavement, the loss of a family member, illness. Moments that call for inner reorganisation — and that benefit from a space for it.

03

Anxiety and depressive states

Emotional states that have settled in and affect the way you live from day to day. Symptom-focused work combined with an understanding of their roots.

04

Crisis of meaning

The feeling of living on autopilot. Of doing what is expected without knowing whether it is what you want. Of having reached your goals and not feeling what you expected to feel.

05

Relational difficulties

Persistent conflicts with a partner, family, colleagues. Patterns of closeness and distance that have become a source of suffering. The need to understand your part in the dynamic.

06

A wish for self-knowledge

You do not need to be in crisis. You may simply wish to understand better who you are, how you function, what moves you. Psychotherapy is also a space for thinking about yourself.

How it works, in four stages

There is no predetermined duration and no universal formula. But there are typical moments in the therapeutic process — worth knowing about before you begin.

The rhythm is defined with you, and adjusted over time according to what the process calls for.

01

First assessment consultation

A first meeting, with no commitment to continue, to understand your situation and see whether it makes sense for us to work together — and in what direction.

02

Building the therapeutic relationship

The first sessions serve to create the space — trust, rhythm, safety. We do not expect immediate depth. We expect honesty.

03

The work of elaboration

The central phase of the process. Here, what calls for understanding unfolds — patterns, conflicts, repetitions, contents that had remained unnamed.

04

Conclusion or continuation

When the goals have been reached, or when the process comes to a natural rest, it concludes. At other times, it continues — at a more spaced rhythm, as ongoing support.

"Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes."

Questions that often arise

How do I know if I need psychotherapy?

You do not have to be in crisis to begin. People seek psychotherapy for many different reasons — from established symptoms (anxiety, depression, insomnia) to the simple wish to understand better who they are and how they function. If the question arises for you, a first conversation is already worthwhile.

How long does a therapeutic process take?

There is no single answer. Some processes last a few months, focused on specific issues. Others extend over years, in an analytical path of greater depth. The duration is decided with you, based on what the process calls for — not on a plan fixed from the outset.

Can I stop at any time?

Yes. The therapeutic process is always voluntary and can be stopped at any time. When it makes clinical sense, we suggest one or two closing sessions — so that the ending can also be thought through, not merely carried out.

Are online consultations as effective as in-person ones?

Contemporary research shows that, for most clinical presentations, online psychotherapy has comparable efficacy to in-person work. There are, however, situations in which physical presence matters — and in those cases we discuss it openly. The platforms we use are secure and GDPR-compliant.

Does what I share really remain confidential?

Absolutely. All Psingular professionals are bound by professional secrecy as established by the Portuguese Psychologists' Association. Clinical records are protected under GDPR. The very rare legal exceptions (imminent risk to life, court order) would be discussed with you before any action.

The first step is just a conversation.

The assessment consultation does not commit you to continuing. It is simply a chance to get to know each other and to see, together, whether it makes sense for us to work together.
